Every Breath I Take...Poems by Brenda
Blessed greetings,
I am a Christian Poet and Author who came to know Christ in 1996 and fell in love with Him and have been loving Him ever since. I live in Dalton, Georgia where I ask Him each morning to show me throughout the day where I can be His hands and feet. I am a caretaker for an 89 year-old wonderful woman who has been my landlady for the last 22 years and I love dearly. I write poetry and song lyrics for the honor and glory of my Lord and God. It is such a joy to be here with you and I only hope you are blessed with the blessings God has bestowed upon me! I am very blessed, indeed!
As in James 4:8, I was in a time of waiting because of becoming disabled and not being able to work, and I saw this as a perfect time to draw near to God and He was drawing very near to me. I was writing, writing, writing, in my morning journaling with Him, and then I remembered how I used to write poetry that seemed to come out of nowhere in my younger days and I was being urged by the Lord to write for Him, for His honor and glory. So I answered His call by asking Him to give me poetry for His honor and glory as a blessing for myself for a blessing for others and He almost immediately started giving me beautiful poems for that very purpose.
With love in Christ,
Brenda LaVelle
Always, in all ways, to God the honor and glory!
He Saved Us 11/6/08
I have to go on record
Of living life in discord.
As I grew up I hated life.
It seemed all evil and strife.
Remember wanting to die,
Felt like I was living a lie.
All in my life seemed for ill,
I only wanted death, still.
I grew up too hard, too fast.
Childhood was nothing that would last
More than three or four of my years.
They were full of salty tears.
I had two brothers to raise
And they fulfilled all of my days,
Trying to keep them safe from harm,
Not to let them hear my alarm.
No, we never had a choice,
But I'd keep distress from my voice,
Not to let the little ones hear
A heart that was filled with fear.
We made it through, although scarred,
Through all those years that seemed so hard.
Now today we all three have reached
The hand of the Prince of Peace.
He's binding up broken hearts,
Throwing away the useless parts.
We know the King and Father too,
And Christ, I want to thank You,
That we did more than survive,
And by Your hand kept us alive
to come to see the different view
Of knowing and loving You.

Bliss 12/29/07
To see my God
Face-to-face
In that Holy place,
I will never
Be the same
As I pronounce His name.
My joy will then
Be fulfilled
As He has always willed,
And the angels sweet
Will sing their song.
Oh, for that day I long!

On the Morning Dew 1/27/08
Thank You for helping me remember, this morning,
Because it is setting my soul soaring!
You are bringing me up, out of the valley so low,
Up to where, once again, I know
Your love and mercy await me fresh and new,
Outside, on the morning dew.
Oh, how easily I forget Your Care,
When I find myself, I know not where.
But once, when after a good night’s sleep,
I come again to Your arms so deep,
You wake me up and tickle my brain,
And bring me home, so sweet, again.
How dear Your Words have come to me,
When I have forgotten how to see.
I open my eyes to find You there,
And once again life is so fair!

Only He 2/13/08
Only He
Can lift the weight
Call you in
Open the gate
He wants your all
No less, no more
Give it to Him
Then close the door
Once, when safely
Within His fold
You will never need
Silver or gold
For He will provide
For your every need
With you humbly walk
Gently lead
Follow Him onward
Let Him be your Guide
And He will bring you
To the other side
Where the Father awaits you
With open arms
And never again
Will you meet with harm

Do I glory in the Lord?
I Glory in You! 3/23/08
Oh how I love and adore You!
My love for You pours out
Every pore of my body!
If my love for You were blood,
I would have bled-out by now!
I cannot contain myself,
I glory in You all day long!
Every state of my being
Is altered by Your pure love!
I cannot comprehend
The sacrifice of Your Son
For my ungodly human sins.
You give and You gave and You will
Give again for me to live
With You one day in Paradise.
I cannot count my blessings,
They're too many to be numbered.
I know we have each other's all,
And in this day I'll live content,
Not just content, but overwhelmed!

Breathe 10/2/08
Breathe Your Holy breath on me,
That I may have the sight to see
The vision, not of destiny,
But Your face, for the joy it brings
To my heart, one of those things
That in my soul, rejoicing sings.
Breathe Your Holy breath on me,
That I may just a pilgrim be
In this land, to have victory
Over self and honor Him
Who keeps me safe, secure within,
And took away my ugly sin.
Breathe Your Holy breath on me,
And lead me to with You agree
That Jesus died to set me free.
Satan has been cast down,
Your angels flutter all around
Me with Your righteous crown.

How Could I Not 3/27/08
How could I not
Praise You, Lord,
For all the things You do?
How could I not
Love You, Lord,
When You've loved me so true?
How could I not
Adore You, Lord,
For all You've done for me?
How could I not
Worship You, Lord,
When You've been to Calvary?
How could I not
Shout Your name
From the rooftops of the world?
How could I not
In Your name,
Do everything to help I could?
How could I not
Give to You
All the honor and glory?
How could I not
Tell the world
The Good News and Your story?
How could I not
Get on my knees,
And to You to humbly pray?
How could I not
To You first,
Give my all in every way?
How could In not?

I'm Just Hangin' On To Jesus 3/21/08
I'm looking for You, my Shepherd,
Through the dreary day.
I'm lost and stumbling, afraid and falling,
Cannot find my way.
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
I've wandered far and day has turned
Once again to night,
And my Shepherd knows I have fallen
On out of His sight.
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
I'm His long, lost lamb among the rocks,
Bruised among the thorns.
He's searching for me at this moment,
Will find me before morn.
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
When He finds this one bedraggled sheep,
He will not make a sound,
But sling me over His shoulders strong.
His joy will be profound.
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
He'll carry me back to the pasture green,
Lay me down to rest,
And safe again within the fold I'll know
He's done His very best.
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!
I'm just hangin' on to Jesus!

Pass the Word 5/1/08
My praises ring on high
For the One I adore!
He brings the truth in sight,
Holiness He implores.
As man I can't be holy,
Until to Jesus I come,
For He is the One solely,
In which this must be done.
He gives me my Salvation
As a precious given gift.
I see that His Dominion
Is the only thing that lifts
My filthy sins away,
And makes me right with God
If I will only obey,
And stay within His rod.
My Shepherd guides His flock well,
But when one goes astray,
He uses God's Word to tell
The finding of the way.
Oh, give Him all the glory,
For the wonders of His life,
Of how He brings His story,
To save one and all alike.
No man need go unsaved,
If we who are will tell
Of how we were once enslaved,
But how God served us well.
It is our's to pass the Word,
Of Jesus, King Most High,
To tell others He is Lord
In each and every life.

Into Battle 4/6/08
When the way is so uncertain,
And the clouds all seem to gather,
I come running to the Holy One,
My Jesus, Lord, and Master.
I cannot think it through myself,
But need His wise, Holy candor,
Do not take things to my own hands,
Because I'll only flounder.
I weigh His Words in careful scales,
Take nothing out of context,
But looking at the big picture,
I try to not get so vexed.
I ask for His calm assurance,
His Light to give direction,
His hand to be leading my way,
When it gets on down to action.
I ask for truth and discernment,
Knowing He will not lead me astray,
As I put all my faith in Him,
With confidence, I go His way.
Into the throes of battle,
With my Keeper by my side,
I know we'll come out the victors,
Because He has been my Guide.

Be With Me Forever 4/5/08
Oh, be with me, forever, my God,
When at sleep and wherever I trod.
I cannot from You, one moment be,
You must stay, always with me.
Oh, be with me, forever, my God,
Where lilies are fair and horses plod,
While butterflies flit, pretty and free,
Or out on the ocean, out at sea.
Oh, be with me, forever, my God,
Let me see how with me You spared the rod,
As You sent Your own Son to die in my place,
To take on my sin with all the disgrace.
Oh, be with me, forever, my God,
Show me the nails and the Savior's blood,
Let me see how my sins were paid for me,
How my life was saved at Calvary.
Oh, be with me, forever, my God,
And when I come Home, I will applaud,
The grace and the mercy You've shown to me,
That You opened my eyes, at last, to see.
Oh, be with me, forever, my God,
Let me worship You and let me sob,
With joyous refrains of praise on High,
For a King Who has brought me so nigh.

Oh, Good Shepherd 6/10/08
Oh, Good Shepherd,
Find Your lamb,
Bring him home,
Let him not be damned.
Gather him home
From far or near,
Set his face
Upon Your's so dear.
Oh, Good Shepherd,
With rod or staff,
Let him not cry,
But learn to laugh.
Bring him back home
To Your flock.
Watch the ticking
Of eternity's clock.
Oh, Good Shepherd,
He's lone and lost.
He knows not what
His ways have cost.
Drag him home
With a tender word,
Or cut him quick
With Your flaming sword.
Oh, Good Shepherd,
Let none be lost.
The soul lives on
But the body rots.
Claim all of Your's,
Do it now.
There is no time,
The Devil prowls.

Always, in all ways, to God the honor and glory!
Surely With Thee 6/8/08
Oh what a blessing it is to be,
Truly connected, surely with Thee!
To bring to You my everything,
And see what out of it You will bring.
Surprises galore, so glad to be,
Truly connected, surely with Thee!
To come in communion to Your side,
To put away all ungodly pride.
You bring out the best there is in me,
Truly connected, surely with Thee!
You make my life seem to glide on by,
Morning, noon, and every night.
Oh, how glorious the day can be,
Truly connected, surely with Thee!
And when the day is over and done,
I have been kept by the only One.

In Jesus' Name 4/18/08
In Jesus' name,
Today I pray,
Within my heart,
To always stay,
To let me not
Forget these words,
For Jesus' heart
Will never hurt.
For this one Man,
For all His days,
Was the perfect
One, in all ways.
From His Father,
He took His will,
In harmony,
And yet He still,
Became the One,
On Whom man's sin,
In all disgrace,
Was taken in.
For all the good
He did on earth,
He was not seen
For His one worth,
But Calvary
Was His reward,
Was taken there
By the swift sword,
Of lying men,
False witnesses,
Before Pilate,
Who did their best,
To have this Man
Scourged and scorned,
Upon His head
A crown of thorns,
Led right on to
His Holy fate,
Upon the Cross,
To Heaven's gate.
What few saw then,
Some few see now,
The whips and chains,
Blood on His brow.
But what really
Needs to be seen,
Is what does lay
Within the King,
His gentle heart,
Full of mercy,
His way of love
For all to see,
How He wants us
To come to Him,
To take away
Our filthy sin,
And make us right
With our Father,
Who for our sakes,
Did even bother,
To send His Son
To die for us,
Upon that saving
And Holy Cross.

Answer the Call 2/3/08
Isaiah 6:8
Here am I Lord,
Tattered and torn,
Bruised and worn.
You care not how,
Only that I come,
Whether as a beggar
Off the streets,
Or a rich man
Knowing he’s poor.
I bring myself,
Lots or none,
For Your Good Will
Only
To be done.
It is in Your Presence
I find my peace,
In Your will,
I find my place.
I heard you call
Many times before,
My name,
So soft, so low,
But I brushed it off,
Always scoffed,
“Surely He doesn’t mean me!”
I doubted Your love,
Rejected Your grace,
Refused to get on my knees,
But now that I’m down
I’m turning around
And asking You, “Please,
“Send me!”

The Unknown Lady 1/6/08 revised 3/23/08
I see her walking down the street
And wonder why Your hand so sweet
Has made so slow her feet.
Her back is bowed
As if under a heavy load
As she shuffles down the road.
I see her walking everywhere,
But, why, I feel, I do not dare,
Stop, to tell her that I care.
I want to stop and ask her why
She always seems about to cry,
But my actions always myself belie.
Oh help me Lord, to stop, one day,
Instead of passing on away
And let me speak and hear me say,
“Lady, I don’t know your name,
But you and I are much the same,
And many times I never came,
“To stop and ask if I could lend a hand,
Or tell you about a far-off land,
And I have not obeyed a command
“To tell you about my Savior’s love,
Or His Spirit, soft as a dove,
Or my Heavenly Father from above.
“But on this day, my new-found friend,
Let me at last your ear now bend
To tell you how life can never end.
“And let me sweep you off your feet
And take you to my Lord to meet
The One Who can make your life complete.
Page 2 of The Unknown Lady
“Jesus, with Whom we need no fear,
To Whom we can come to while we’re here,
Who is the One we can find so dear,
“Who saves us from our sin so deep
And asks us to sit right at His feet
And wipes our tears to no more weep.
“And He promises everlasting life,
No more sickness, no more strife,
Only forever in His Light!
“Now lay you down in His arms,
He’ll keep you safe from all life’s harms,
And swift away from all alarms,
“And as you drift off sweet in sleep,
Remember He will always keep
You within His fold, as His sheep.”

Do You Really Know? 2/28/08
Do you really know
How blessed you are
That God has taken
You thus so far?
Do you know that God
Has been in everything,
Has sent His angels
In to sing?
When you wake up
In the morn,
Do you thank Him
That you were born?
When trials fly
In your face,
Do you thank Him
For His grace
To see them through,
Although alarmed,
He keeps you safe
From the harm.
Do you know when He
Allows you pain
It is always for
Ultimate gain?
Do you really know
He's by your side
And in His love
You do abide?
If not, my friend,
Look in the mirror,
And when your face
Does appear,
Realize once,
And for all,
That He is bringing
You the call
To see Him in
His perfect role
And let Him in
To your soul.
